If you have not seen the press release come over the newswire then allow me to be the one to break the news and shed some light on the details. Recently I have formally accepted an executive position with Best of the Web.
Over the course of a couple weeks we had multiple lengthy conversations regarding the general aspects about the new product. After some “big brain” strategizing I was offered the opportunity to take the reins & tasked with “make it happen”.
These past fourteen months I’ve been working directly with some extremely smart and highly spirited entrepreneurs on the build-out of what we now publicly call “Local”. We have recently completed major development work and are progressively rolling out nationwide within the
With Local now a notch on my BOTW belt, Brian and Greg approached me a few weeks ago about coming on permanently. Once again we jumped back into having “big brain” strategy conversations and a formal agreement has been made.
As the press release mentioned, I will be responsible for interacting with agencies, identifying distribution opportunities, and project managing new offerings. Since we have already been working with each other for over a year these new responsibilities although challenging are a natural fit.
On a more personal note, I am thrilled to be joining such a great company. Those who regularly attend search conferences are very familiar with the genuine vibe and kinship BOTW exudes. Being able to share in this energy on a daily basis has made this past year highly enjoyable and productive.
I invite my readers to jump on Local and help spread the word of our latest web offering.

I have a question, I have one of my websites included into BOTW directory, but on the page that it was listed on, I didn’t see any PR. So is it still beneficial to have a site listed on a page with no PR even though the homepage of the site has a high PR?

@HK Lover: First off, we’re thankful to have one of your sites included within the directory. Our value at large is comprised of the sum of the sites listed within the directory, so without you, we’re less valuable to users.
Of course when one refers to PR, they are more specifically referring to Toolbar PR (TBPR), and not the true authority that Google determines that a specific page actually has (or doesn’t have). I’m fairly sure that it’s accepted within the search industry that TBPR is “broken”, or that it doesn’t accurately reflect the value Google assigns to that page. So trying to determine the potential value one may receive from Google based upon visible TBPR is inherently flawed. Granted I am not a Google search engineer, so while I believe my statements to be on target, they’re far from official.
Your primary concern would be whether the search engines index the page you are listed on. Do a query for that page to see if the search engine has the page indexed and cached. If so, great - you should be receiving credit from the engine for the citation. If not, then you should contact the directory and let them know that you have been placed on a page that does not appear to be indexed.
One point to note is that the non-indexed category in which you are placed may be a new category, and yet to have been indexed. While the engines continue to get quicker and quicker in recognizing new pages, sometimes there is a lag in the time between when a category is created and when the engines spider that category.

Wow. Seriously, congrats on the job! It must be exciting working for BOTW. They’re pretty well known. How did they approach you? I’ve always wondered how people “land” these sort of jobs. It sounds like they contacted you. Why can’t these people contact me? Haha. Anyway, congrats again!
Best of luck,
John Quino
