I’m Another Year Older Today and Shandy Turned 1

Today is my birthday and I am another year older but more importantly ShandyKing has turned 1.
I get asked all the time, what the hell is a ShandyKing and how did I come up with that name?
It was about a year ago this time I took some serious interest in the pod-casting world. Actually, I think this was over the holiday season last year. I spent hours looking around the internet for any podcast I could get my hands on and listen to anything related to Internet Marketing.
It did not take to long before I stumbled upon a website called WebmasterRadio.fm. Finding that place was as if I hit the jackpot of podcast’s with their hour on end of Search Engine Optimization and Webmaster radio shows.
Around about that same time I jumped into the first Chat room I had been in since 1994 with America On Line. This chat room was hosted by WebmasterRadio. Upon entering it did not take me to long to realize that everyone had a cool nick name.
I also realized that some of these people were communicating in other forums and had their own Blogs, branded with their nick names.
At this time I had never considered writing on a Blog. In fact the whole idea seemed a little to out-there for me.
While driving with my wife I mentioned to her about WebmasterRadio and how all the people I was listening to on the radio had cool nick names. There is the Oilman, BakedJake, the WebGuerrilla and GoodROI. Of course I can not to forget about the host of WebmasterRadio, SEGuru.
Literally as soon as I started to tell my wife about these people she said how about ShandyKing. That was the first name she came up with and I was like, “you know that not that bad”.
I did not start Blogging till late March so in those first few months I began to post in several forums and make my appearance in the WebmasterRadio chat room as ShandyKing.
I am not sure what triggered me to register ShandyKing.com in late March but I recall speaking with one of my new chat room buddies, NevDull, about Blogging and he mentioned to talk about things related to business and what ever is on my mind.
So I took his advice and started with my first post, My Elevator Pitch. Anyhow, it has been a wild year being ShandyKing!
In case you do not know, a Shandy is a british drink that include beer and 7′up. As a kid, drinking Shandy’s with my dad was about as close as I could get to drinking beer! There actually really good. Take Becks and mix it with some 7′up.

Happy Birthday! It’s a great blog. I started listening to WMR last year shortly before SES Chicago. I couldn’t get the thing to start streaming audio so Brandy spent the time to give me a personal lesson on Pod-Casts for Dummies.
Lots of great people link to you in the blogroll. That’s how I found you. The posting schedule you have is about right for me. Most people who post more than once a day don’t get read as much as I would like.
BTW - The blog looks/works great. I’m about to redesign my blog. Any tips or stories you might have about plugins/widgets or other things that you’ve installed/un-installed, what worked, didn’t work over the year would be interesting to me anyway.

Aloha Dave,
I would not say my blog is super customized. I chose a 3 column relaxation theme and just been tweaking the side bars with plugin’s that I enjoy. So where is your blogroll?
