Controlling Your Image When Sharing Videos on Your Blog

This week several people have asked me about the difficulty in creating videos and placing them up on a company Blog. As it turns out one of the sites I frequent daily, SEOmoz.org, did just that.

SEOmoz is run by Rand Fishkin who last night uploaded a neat little video with him and his staff talking about the Wikipedia. In the spirit of being a Moz and sharing openly to the world, this was a cool idea. He specifically asked the readers of his blog to provide feedback as to what they could improve upon for future videos.

Since this was their first go at it, expectedly there were quite a few things that could be done better. Just basics like sound, lighting and set-planning.

What struck me as odd was when the video finished. SEOmoz chose to use Metacafe to host their video content and Metacafe offers us viewers the option to watch additional videos when you’re done watching the original.

As you can see from the picture below take a look at the choices Metacafe offered us, “Cheating Wife”, “Real or Not” and “Celebrity Up-Skirt”.

I have nothing against and don’t mind watching good Celebrity Up-Skirt videos but to see this content on Rand’s company website made me double take.

Knowing Rand and the SEOmoz crew I am sure this was not done on purpose and I am sure they will fix this as soon as possible. But it just goes to show that even the best Internet Marketers have to double check everything before placing it live on their company website.

Playing with videos and distributing them has never been easier. As you can see Metacafe offers one solutions. Just be sure you cover all the angles before releasing your videos on your company blog.

Speaking of angles, I watched the “Celebrity Up-Skirt” video and it’s not worth recommending.
