I just signed up for Snap Preview Anywhere and implemented the Snap Wordpress Plugin for it. If you put your mouse over any hyperlink you should be able to see a preview for the sites I’m linking @.
Seriously, what do you think? Is it lame or cool?

I actully quite like it. I saw it the other day on another website and added it to my blog todo list. Which means of course I’ll probably never get to it but still…:)

Hated it.

That’s pretty cool.

Hawaii, why?

I’m torn on it. I’ve seen it in lots of places and I can’t quite decide if I really like it or I’m really annoyed by it.
Good - cool feature, gives you a quick glimpse at a website.
Bad - first time I saw it I thought I had spyware on my computer or that it was an Intelitxt type of ad.
So I’m still up in the air on it and that’s why I haven’t put it on any of my sites yet.

I’ll admit it - I hate it. It’s more anoying that anything - I judge whether I want to visit a link by the link itself, not some tiny thumbnail -sized image that you can’t read any of the text in anyways!

I also saw this on another blog and thought it was cool as well. It was a snapshot of my site and so that might have been one reason but i thought it was rather cool.
Things i would look at though.
1. The snapshot is too small to really see the page your going to in any detail. So if the layout of a site is something that draws you then great.
2. I dont want to be interupted when i read. Most of the time i tend to follow words with my mouse. Just a habit of mine. If i get a pop up anything it interupts me and depending on my temperment for the day will actually frustrate me.
3. I think that alot of cool features are available that in my opinion do not really add anything even though they are very cool.
Take Flash for instance.
I am really really trying to think of something good about it and the only thing is that it does add something kind web2.0 ish and looks fancy.

Great feedback!

Nice feature. Can you set it to only do it on external links?

Ogletree, excellent question. I just checked and the answer is yes. I have set it to show only external links. I think this looks better.

I have it on my blogs and quite like it - interesting to see the comments here though - I find it useful - I find I am following links to attractive looking sites - and some when I see the preview I don’t bother. I also have cooliris addon for firefox which does give me near full page preview so I can properly look at a page before deciding to go there.

Lame.
I had this on my old blog after seeing it on Marketing Pilgrim, but it gets very annoying for readers, like Brent said. It won’t keep me from visiting, but I would prefer it not there.

In all honesty, this sort of blog super-technology does nothing but annoy me. Perhaps I’m just a Luddite—no, scratch that, I’m a writer—but I feel strongly that your text should be compelling enough to drive readers to click through.
Snap just gets in the way, covering up the text I want to read and startling the hell out of me when I accidentally run my mouse over a link.
Not like I have an opinion on it, or anything!

I hate this particular scriptlet. The first I know about it is that the silly thing pops up and starts some extra http activity.
It means being carefull where I leave my mouse or I could have some damn lump of an interstatial cover the text I was looking at.
I’m considering designing a firefox addin to block this script - I probably will not get it done but…

[…] Unfortunately they might very well pull me off that list when they read this post. If you are not sure who Snap is, might I suggest you pop over to my post from last week on Snap Preview Anywhere, it’s a real quick read. Then when you are done you can come back and finish reading this post. […]

I fing snap annoying and pointless. This small thumbnail takes so much time to load and you can’t tell anything about websites content from it. I rather click and push the backspace button. Faster and more efficient.

its nice though it makes the site slow
