I Must Buy A U3 Right This Second

This is probably the greatest thing I have come across in a while and I want one now! Take a closer look.
I am a power computer user and like many people in my space, I spend about 100% of my working day in front of the computer. If it is not staring at the multiple monitors which sit on my desk, it’s staring at my laptop when I get home.
If there is one thing that I hate about computers is the fact all my stuff is all over the place and when I want to find something on the internet I either can’t remember the name or I forgot the password and it’s stored on another computer. I waist so much time looking for things!
Well that’s not going to happen any more. Tonight I found a U3 and this thing looks sweet. They claim it’s the next generation of Flash Drives. It is software that runs on a USB drive and allows you to execute programs from the Flash Drive without having to install anything on the Windows machine.
As an SEO this is why I would love a U3.
There are 1000’s of new programs being written for the U3 and one that is already written is FireFox. With it, I think I can install all my extensions since the version of FF looks the same as the one I am currently using on my desktop.
I currently use RoboForm for 60+ passwords I keep. I hate the fact if I update Roboform with a new password on one machine; the other is not in sync.
There are email syncing issues I have to deal with, bookmarks, quick links and all the dozens of other things I use on one machine when I wished I had it on another.
A classic situation was tonight. I was over at my parents using their computer and I wished I had my SEO tools, bookmarks and passwords. I would have been off their computer so much faster.
Even though a normal USB hard dive could work the same, you still need to install applications on the host computer if they were not already on there for the data to be read.
In this case, it has its own Operating System. This could be our first step for many of us to unleash ourselves from a handful of PC’s.
Looking at many of these little applications built for the U3, I may put it through the test where all I need from Microsoft is the operating system, no more outlook express email, regular outlook or office applications.
I know, it is a bold step.
While IMing with my buddy Shawn tonight, he pointed to this Google Firefox extension Google Browser Sync which allows us to sync Firefox between machines.
“Google Browser Sync for Firefox is an extension that continuously synchronizes your browser settings – including bookmarks, history, persistent cookies, and saved passwords – across your computers. It also allows you to restore open tabs and windows across different machines and browser sessions.”
This works great, but you still have to have the extensions instaled on the machines. In my world I am one of the few people who use Firefox. Everyone still uses IE because it’s all they know. With a U3 on my keychain I can sit at anyone’s computer and use it like it’s my own.

u3 is nothing new. you can run software from evry usb drive, even ipods. just get the stuff at portableapps.com. u3 is buggy, insecure and the software is always a few versions behind. u3 only has firefox 1.5. but portable firefox that doesn’t need u3 is 2.0. roboform works on regular drives, too. and you can add other software to it.

Jeremy, thats a great tip. It looks like Portableapps.com does the same thing!

Wow! Please let us know how you like it after you’ve been using it for a week or so.
I tried the Google Browser Sync plug-in but it slowed everything down for some reason. I un-installed it about two days later.

I have a U3 smart Drive already and it really works for me. Although it is noting new since I had a smart drive before that had software called Carry it Easy on it. Now with my U3 drive I have also Carry it Easy on it so I still do the same things with it. Sync my work stuff with my home PC to have a backup just in case. All in all, worth to try for everybody.
