The Amazon.com Contradiction

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

Amazon.com I want to point something out. I think it is wonderful that you have registered all the possible misspellings of your domain name, especially since there are plenty of people like me who rush to type in amazon.com but mistakenly type amzon.com.

Great foresight! But what I don’t get is why when typing in any possible misspelling of your domain names I get sent to this help page?

I find this to be very insensitive of my consumer need to buy things with one click!

To top if off and add insult in injury the first thing you have me read when directed to your help page:

Welcome to Amazon.com Help

Amazon.com is committed to being Earth’s most customer-centric company. With this in mind, we’ve made it easier than ever for you to get answers to your burning questions.

Well, being a customer-centric company and that you had the foresight to register every possible misspelling of your domain name; do you really think anyone mistyping “amzon” for “amazon” that we were actually looking for a help page?

Here is a tip… Send all root domain misspellings to the HOME PAGE.

Happy Holidays from ShandyKing!

Tagging Wordpress Categories Was Not Such a Good Idea

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

Two months ago I tried an experiment. Using a plug-in called Category Tagging I converted all my categories to tags. Upon doing so I saw an immediate effect with Google. My blog was ranking for many more long tail searches and traffic increased quite a bit. (more…)

Smoking Cigarettes Prohibited in City, However They’re Selling Marijuana Across the Street

No Smoking Legalized Marijuana

Paternalism coming from anyone else but my parents drives me nuts. I really do not mind that our government makes laws to keep our society in check and to protect its citizens, which is why I do not run around committing crimes.

What I do have a problem with is small local governments, folks who manage suburban areas who enact laws on the people because they feel its best.

Now I came across something which had me cracking up last Sunday night. As I am sure you know by now I live in the city of Los Angeles and there is this small upscale suburb called Calabasas. (more…)
