A Warning When Using Blogger With Own Domain

This is a warning to anyone who uses Blogger.com with their own personal domain name. If you don’t know what Blogger.com is or don’t care you can ignore this post.
About a year ago a family member of mine registered a new domain name for his new business. Then he created a Blogger account and configured it so Blogger would work with his own personal domain.
For someone who did not want the headache of developing a new site from scratch and only wanting the ability to blog, this was a decent solution for the time.
About 4 months ago he had professionally developed a new website. We deleted the old Blogger files and uploaded the new site. It was one of those sites which required very little maintenance after uploading.
The new site has been running with no problems to speak of until this week when he received phone call’s that his new site no longer appeared.
For some strange reason if anyone in the past few weeks went to the site, the old Blogger website appeared.
After I got an urgent call from him I FTP’d into the server I saw that his INDEX file was being overwritten by Blogger IDEX file.
I logged back into his old Blogger account and after reviewing the settings I saw that his FTP settings were still active.
This is the pisser, even though no one was updating his Blogger account with new posts, it was still refreshing the INDEX file on his personal host.
As he no longer was using Blogger’s service, I deleted his account altogether.
So, this is a warning to anyone who is using Blogger on a personal domain and switched over to a personal site. Make sure you disable your old Blogger account, or change the settings so it does not make a FTP call to your personal server and replace your new index files.
