Daniel Craig as 007 James Bond in Casino Royale

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

This past holiday weekend my wife and I saw the new James Bond movie, Casino Royale.

In case you’ve been stranded on a deserted island, after a ten year stretch of playing 007 Pierce Brosnan no longer has the rights to order his Martinis shaken, not stirred.

In this latest action adventure thriller we are introduced to a new double-o, Daniel Craig. If you’re scratching your head asking who in the hell is Daniel Craig, you’re not alone. He is most notable from the movies Munich and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. (more…)

Hear Me Co-Host Net Income with ShoeMoney on WebMasterRadio

Listen Here

Jeremy Schoemaker aka ShoeMoney hit me up to see if I would be interested in co-hosting his radio show for Tuesdays Net Income and I accepted. Although I have been on the radio a couple of times before, this was the first time I was on the air for a full hour.

Shoemoney had on another guest, Cshel, who I met in Las Vegas for the first time last week. While Shoe and I spent the majority of our time at the show networking in the evenings, Cshel made it to a few sessions and we got to hear all about it.

One of the main points we discussed was regarding a comment made by Matt Cutts, a Google representative. I happened to attend this session and while in it, we heard Matt make a strange comment in response to an attendees site review. Cshel has an excellent write up about it here.

We chatted a bit about article submission services and duplicate content. Cshel steps up to the plate and offers a nice trick to being successful when submitting articles.

For those of you who are in the PPC game, Shoe discusses Googles new quality score algorithm and shares with us how he feed’s the search bots one page while displaying another to the end user. Some folk’s might say Shoemoney is “cloaking” to fight the quality score.

All in all it was fun to be on the show. Listen Here

Back From PubCon Las Vegas – ShandyKing Tips & Pics

Monday, November 20th, 2006

I’ve been to Las Vegas hundreds of times in my life but never stayed as long as I had this last week. I arrived late last Tuesday staying at New York, New York and on Friday I moved hotels to the Palms where I met my wife to finish off the weekend.

Being there so long there are too many moments to recall, but here are a few tips.

After having a fantastic meal with a group of people, I don’t recommend saying “Who do I have to thank for this meal” until you are sure the bill was paid for. Let’s just say I pulled my foot out of my mouth when I realized no one had paid.

When stumbling into your hotel room at 5 in the morning, don’t just grab the first bottle of water you see and drink it. I grabbed an open bottle of water sitting on top of the bar and drank it thinking it was my wife’s. I found out later that she was not the one to open the bottle and it was sitting there from the previous night’s guest.

Pillows and blankets are needed in the hotel room bathrooms as after a long night of drinking some like to relax in there.

When playing No-Limit Holdem with a group of the world’s smartest online marketer’s and black-hatter’s it is wise to bring enough cash to buy-in multiple times.

If your poker game end’s when the sun is just rising, take a few moments before heading to bed to grab some steak, egg’s and hot chocolate.

If you’re with a group of 7-10 people and all heading to the same place, get a limo. That 15 minute ride can be a priceless experience.

Finally and most importantly, head to the Mandalay Bay Hotel and check-into their day spa. I’ve been razzed on this quite a bit but well worth it. Treat yourself to 4 hours in the spa and just relax. Passing in and out of sleep while breathing in Eucalyptus gave me the strength to handle another few days of heavy drinking and night long gambling.

Here are some pic’s we took.

Here are more pic’s Shoe has on his site.

And Brent from Weird Asia News has some more pics. (BTW, check out this guy’s site it has some great posts)

If you have any more pictures and want me to link to them, let me know.

Las Vegas Pubcon 2006 (OPEC Videos)

Monday, November 13th, 2006

Don’t expect much writing as I will be in Vegas all this week for Pubcon.

I hope this week in addition to talking to people about Search Engines / Internet stuff I hope to learn more about the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The past few times I’ve talked to people about Oil they bring up OPEC. I have no clue if they are right or not.

For those who like to listen to things while they work, Panel Discussion - The Role of OPEC in a New Energy Era is quite interesting.

A Warning When Using Blogger With Own Domain

Friday, November 10th, 2006

This is a warning to anyone who uses Blogger.com with their own personal domain name. If you don’t know what Blogger.com is or don’t care you can ignore this post.

About a year ago a family member of mine registered a new domain name for his new business. Then he created a Blogger account and configured it so Blogger would work with his own personal domain. (more…)

Over Fishing

Another title I was thinking about, “The New Prius, Sustainable Seafood”.

Boris Worm, a marine biologist at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada has been studying “global catch” data for more then 50 years with a team of 13 researchers in four countries and has come to the conclusion by the middle of this century there will be no fish left to catch in our oceans. Time Magazine

Stephen Palumbi, a Stanford University marine biologist concurs by saying “None of us regular working folk are going to be able to afford seafood […] it’s going to be too rare and too expensive. (more…)

Democrats Win Elections, Rumsfeld Steps Down

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Christmas has come early for many people, especially those who shuddered at any thought of Rumsfeld. According to ABC News,

Halliburton, the CIA and big tobacco companies are among the early targets identified by top Democratic staff to ABC News as likely targets for investigation once the Democrats take control of the House at the beginning of next year.

The staffers say Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), now expected to become speaker, has told top Democratic donors there is a “100-hour agenda” she wants to push through — taking on the minimum wage, drug and energy prices and corruption. (more…)

Broken Down U-Haul, Don’t Count on Luxury Car Driving Women to Help

Monday, November 6th, 2006

Yesterday I had one of those days where everything that could go wrong, went wrong. I needed to pick up some furniture from two different houses to bring back to mine.

I started off the day by renting a U-Haul van and with the help of a couple guys we loaded the furniture from the first house without any problems. As soon as we got to the second house and took a look at the size of the furniture to move and it became apparent to me I needed a much bigger truck. (more…)

Meet Michelle Caplan

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Congrats to our friend Michelle Caplan for making the cover of Creative Techniques magazine and the November issue of Real Simple magazine. Michelle is an up and coming mixed media collage artist.

Michelle created the piece below of me and my wife for our wedding gift. As you can see, it was this piece that made the cover of Creative Techniques. Upon seeing our wedding gift we commissioned Michelle to create a portrait of my wife’s 90 year old grandmother.

Upon unveiling the grandmother’s portrait in front of a crowd of 50 plus people we were bombarded with questions about the artist.

Christmas is coming up. If you’re looking to give someone you care about a unique gift I suggest you contact Michelle Caplan.
