The Captain vs. Ebay : Round 2

June 7th, 2006
Written By: Adam Sussman

Let’s give it up for Dax and the Captain!

Last week the world went crazy as we all watched an explosive bidding war take place on Ebay for Dax’s moustache.

The price for the legendary moustache hit close to $400 before ebay shut down the auction because Dax had a link on the auction leading back to his own website.

Apparently it’s not acceptable with ebay to offer your users a link that takes them to another site which offers more product descriptions.

Anyhow… The Captain is back.

That is not what happened. You are allowed to link to your site with more information about your auction. You just can’t word it the way he did. He should have just said click here for more pictures and information. Also the page needs to be clean. No ads, no phone numbers. It can show nothing other than more data about the auction. People get away with it all the time apparently somebody turned him in. I also think having the website being bignutts.com had something to do with it. That would be considered vulgar by some.

Yea. You’re totally right ogletree. In the immortal words of Billy Madison:

    “You blew it!”

I met some cool people though who followed my link from the auction.
