My Elevator Pitch - Why Blog Now?

Friday, March 31st, 2006

I learned along time ago that if you can not get the person you’re talking with to understand your new concept in about a minute’s time then chances are the idea has not been thought through very well. This is called the elevator pitch.

For a while now I have been eager to share my ideas, points of view and observations with those who have similar interests as me. The problem in doing so came down to my social network. I have great friends, all with diverse interests that fulfill all areas of my curiosity, but with work and life getting in the way there is just no way for me to share with them everything I have on my mind when its fresh!

So I started thinking about writing about all these ideas that have been going through my mind. I’ve been spending a lot of time reading up on geo-political issues, advanced science and physics and I wanted to write about all the cool things that are going on in this world that no one seems to really be paying attention too. In addition to that, I wanted to write about the questions I have about certain issues that I find complicated. In a hope if by writing my questions, then I may be motivated enough to come up with some reasonable answers.

The last time I actually wrote stuff down for personal reasons was a journal I kept while backpacking Europe solo in 2001 for a few months. My sister gave me the journal as a gift and it took a few weeks to get into the groove of writing but I started to really enjoy it.

As to what I should write about, I made a decision that I have no interest in dissecting the Search Engine Optimization industry as there are quite a few colleagues of mine who do a much better job of writing about this topic. The blogs I keep up with on this topic can be found on this page.

After talking to a few people about this idea of starting a blog, almost all of them had similar responses and that was I should write about all these things but I should focus on my entrepreneurial experience. I was told that people really enjoy reading about how other people work, succeed and fail and I definitely have some great experience in being an entrepreneur.

Funny thing is, I love reading and hearing about this type of stuff. I just thought since I am not running a large successful business with 100 employees, my stories are not yet ready to be told. But the more I thought about it, I figured I will give it a shot and like any other thing that I do… If it does not work, then so what I gave it a blogging shot!

If it does work and people start to enjoy about what I have to say then great! I found a new outlet to express my thoughts with those that share my ideas.

There you have it. My elevator pitch.
